The March for Science LA

April 22, 2017

For this month’s action, we joined thousands of other protesters in the March for Science Los Angeles this past Saturday, April 22nd. We began our journey together at Universal Station, and later met up with other members of our group in Pershing Square. Under the hot Los Angeles sunshine, we listened to speeches from leaders, community members and our representative Brad Sherman. We were reminded of the threats to our environment, to our health, and to our technology when scientific facts are denied and when funding for science is drastically cut by our government. Following speeches, we marched from Pershing Square to City Hall, holding signs and chanting. “TELL ME WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE,” shouted the 9-year-old daughter of one of our members. “THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE!” we answered spiritedly. Indeed it is! On Saturday, we stood up for our shared beliefs that science is reality, that policy should reflect scientific evidence, and that funding for scientific research is crucial for our future.
